Clara Andrew Copeland – With deep sadness and gratitude for her long life, we announce the death of our Mother on Saturday, March 30th in her 98th year. Clara is the daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle Goodall (Andrew). Clara was predeceased by her beloved husband, James (Sparky) Copeland in 1976 and her eldest son, James in 2013. Sister to the late Catherine (Smith) and brother Robert Goodall (Dot).
She will be deeply missed by her children Janet, Jill (John Crosby), Tom (Gaby), Jeffery (Anne), Paul and Robert Copeland. Clara also leaves behind nine treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clara moved to Woodstock from Windsor at age eleven. After graduating she began her working life in the office at Lafrance Textiles where she made precious friendships that lasted her whole life. She married after World War II and raised her seven children. Mom and Dad were a great team and gave their children stable, idyllic, small town childhoods and a strong sense of family. Clara was a woman of great strength of character, warmth, and love. She was an exceptional cook, gardener, avid reader, and traveler. She loved summers spent at Long Point Beach. After her children were in school, Clara worked at Huron Park Secondary School where she was a well-respected member of the office staff. She was a faithful member of her church community, volunteered for years at the Oxford County Lung Association, Canadian Diabetes Association, and the Children’s Aid Society.
Heartfelt thanks to the expert care of Kathy Chrysler’s Caring Services for Seniors, the Ivey Eye Institute in London and CCAC (Nurse Robbie) who were instrumental in keeping Mom in her home for so long and more recently the caring staff at Riverbend Lodge in Cambridge who made her time there so positive and comfortable.
Resilient and strong, she faced her life challenges, never complaining. She was an inspiration to many. We will miss her voice, style, laugh, smile, grace, strength, bravery, love, wisdom, dry sense of humor and everything that made her so special. She was truly a beautiful person inside and out.
Visitation will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, 1420 Devonshire Avenue, on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 10:00 am – 10:45 am, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am. A private family interment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
